Went on another site visit, and this time it was a true construction site, Casablanca, a condo project at Woodlands. We sat in the container unit waiting of one structure engineer (forgot his post) to brief us on the ‘tour’. The guy’s name is Ethan and boy was he good looking, but his accent or maybe speech problems was so that I couldn’t make up what he’s trying to say if I wasn’t paying full attention (I’m bad). Then someone asked him something about architects and he insulted us. He was so dramatic when he said “Architects are dreamers, it’s us engineer who fulfill their dreams” and he went on saying they get no gratitude for their work when the building is done. They can only be content with is the thought that they have build something that holds a family, and all the blame will go to them if there’s any faults. We were totally shocked! I mean, saying that in front of a class of archi students with 2 lecturers, is he crazy? The expression on out lecturers was so really funny… it’s those kinda of “HAha… I didn’t hear that did I?” act blur faces. We laughed, Ethan laughed. We laughed some more when our identity was exposed, MUAhahaaa…. All along he thought we were engine students, and he hurried us on for the tour in embarrassment. But what he said was quite true, maybe.. Just a little… HAhhaa… hack care.
Yeah! Going up the elevator cage was fun. We were moving so high up, and the view under our feets was just HAHhaa (lost of words). Just imaging only a piece of steel messing separating you so high up (well above ten floors) from the ground floor and you will know what I’m talking about. Next we went into the pre cast building (walled up), which smells a lot like home (upgrading). Out onto a floor slab (‘open air’). We witness how a pre cast slab and column was installed… Super Cool!!! But at the same time the job was super dangerous as their worker’s harness looks like it’s going to give way anytime. It rained and almost time to get going. The elevator cage can only hold up 10 people at a time, therefore we went down in groups. And the group with the most girls, screamed just as the cage starts to descend. Haha, can’t really blame them as the drop was really abrupt. What a day.
